ORANGE CRUSH
Il colore arancione è presente nel testo di "Orange crush" un brano della band statunitense R.E.M.. Orange Crush è una canzone antimilitarista che fa riferimento alla guerra del Vietnam in quanto l'Agente Arancione era un particolare composto chimico che disintegrava la vegetazione in modo da stanare i viet-kong. Il composto era anche più dannoso del Napalm ed ha lasciato danni irreparabili sia sugli uomini che sulla natura.

L'autrice, sconosciuta, scrisse questa canzone dopo aver partecipato ad un'inchiesta per conto dell'Associazione Veterani del Vietnam sugli effetti a lunga distanza dell'esposizione alla diossina, impiegata massicciamente dagli statunitensi durante la guerra come defoliante, noto con il nome di "Agent Orange", prodotto dalla Dow Chemical.
Il brano è intitolato ad un elicotterista statunitense, Paul Reutershan, che morì di cancro nel 1978 a seguito dell'esposizione all'Agent Orange. Prima di morire, rilasciò un'intervista alla rivista Today in cui dichiarò: "Sono morto in Vietnam, ma non l'ho mai saputo".
Il brano è stato sicuramente inciso da Peggy Seeger e anche da Jim Walktendonk in "Red, white and blind", risalente ai primi anni '80, esiste inoltre una versione di tale canzone interpretata da Country Joe McDonald.

Al fine di capire a fondo il ruolo che ha avuto il colore arancione nella musica è inevitabile considerare che tale colore si riconduce in modo molto stretto, quasi parallelo, al frutto di cui porta il nome (l'arancia) citata da Carmen Consoli nella canzone Fiori d'arancio.
